Bad Experiences during Delivery - Part 3

Well here's the continuation from PART 2 on more of the sufferings I had gone through after delivery at the Hospital :

After labour, I was transferred to postnatal ward to recuperate. When the nurse from the delivery department hand me over to postnatal department, I still had saline drip and urinary catheter hooked on. However during the handover, the postnatal nurse could not get a stand to hang my saline bag, so she just lay it on my bed beside me. Only around 15 minutes later when a senior nurse saw my saline bag on my bed, did she scold the nurse and then found a stand for me! Even a layperson would know that a saline bag must be hung at level higher than the point where the drip is administered, how in the world would a well established hospital have a nurse that is unaware of this simple fact?

Later that night at wee hours, the nurse came in to unhook me from the drip. As I was having a high fever due to epidural, I was not very sure what was happening. All I know is that after she pulled out the needle from my wrist, she kept cleaning my hand with a piece of wet towel. Once, my hand dropped back onto the bed, I can feel the bedsheet is wet. Then the nurse pick up my hand and wipe it again, then cover the bedsheet with another sheet cover, and then lay my hand on top of it. I was wondering what had happened but had no energy to respond. So early next morning the moment I woke up, I lift up the sheet cover to find out what had happened the night before. There was a big pool of blood on the bed! No wonder I had a severe Anaemic condition after that....

Remember the urinary catheter that was still with me? Well, another nurse came in the next day in the morning. I was having my breakfast at that moment. The nurse told me to continue with my meal in sitting position while she pulled the catheter out. As I was sitting in upright position, she was pulling the catheter quickly perpendicular towards her (at 90 degree angle). Oucchhh!!! That was so painful that I gave a loud shrill and asked her to stop immediately. Then I lay down flat on my bed before allowing her to continue. When the whole catheter is being pulled out, I could see the long needle dripping with drops of blood! How dare she told me that pulling out the catheter in sitting position wouldn't hurt!

And everytime when my baby was pushed to me for breadfeeding, I could see her lips full of fluffs and threads from her mittens (which is provided by the Hospital nursery). I wonder if the nursery used old mittens on my baby. Ain't I paying for the nursery? What kind of cost saving practices is this?

Now finally came the day when I am discharging (Hooray, finally going out of this 'hell'). I requested for my baby to be brought in from nursery as I prepared for discharge. However, I noticed that both the bottom of my baby's feet were full of deep scratches. When I questioned the nursery staff, I was told that the scratches was from the cloth swaddle. How could a piece of cloth cause deep scratches to the bottom of feet? Unconvinced by her explaination, I took the opportunity to look at my baby's cot when I was collecting my baby's stuffs at the nursery. At the end inside of the baby cot, where the baby feet was placed, were all the tubes used for her diapering and cleaning needs. And the tubes had sharp edges facing her feet! &*@#% !!! (pardon my rudeness as I had bear enough with all these stupid nurses)...

Finally, I was very happy to be out of this Hospital and thought that this will be the end of my and my baby's suffering. Nevertheless, the worst is to be anticipated.

A week after discharged, I was scheduled a follow up visit to my Gynae. During the visit, the Gynae did some cleaning on my episiotomy wound. Right after the visit, the episiotomy threads all came off during the washing. And I went back to the Gynae the next day and asked what had happened and why. She just say that the wound had all open up. I prompted her again on the cause of the opening. She didn't provide me any reply. I was so frustrated and since then had changed to another male gynae.

So now I am still in bed a few months after delivery due to the opening of the episiotomy wound, waiting for the wound to close up by itself.

And I swear to myself not to return to that Hospital and that female Gynae again in the future. Hope this post and previous 2 posts (PART 1 and PART 2) serve as a lesson learnt to all my friends. Be very careful of which Hospital and Gynae that you choose.
